Hi All,

We've finally sent Battleground: Kingdoms to print and we are extremely excited.  As many of you know, Kingdoms was designed by Andrew Gross who then developed it with the Your Move Games team with the support of outside playtest groups.

Kingdoms really explodes the potential for Battleground.  I strongly suspect that a year from now it will be almost unheard of to play a single game of Battleground without using Kingdoms to generate the map, objectives and force levels.  For those that want more than just one battle, Kingdoms is an elegant and very effective campaign system in which you start with 1500-points and only Core units and then choose how to develop your kingdom's resources so as to win battles against other people in the campaign.  By the end you will be fielding epic battles with mercenary allies (including, of course, flying and fire-breathing dragons), but each battle will present you with new challenges for your army design and generalship.

Kaile is swamped right now making the final tweaks to the Kingdoms rules, but in the next day or two she'll put up the official Kingdoms page.  Meanwhile, those of you that have seen Kingdoms, feel free to tease everyone else about it!

Best,
Chad

Wooot

Its by far the best Scenario Generator I have ever seen for a tabletop game.

I would say, a year from now people will scream for MORE.

You will see it: Just great.

I completely agree (although I have only limited comparison for other scenario generators).  During Origins I often told people that I was really glad that Andrew had designed Kingdoms (rather than me) because I can say exactly how good I think it is without feeling like I'm patting myself on the back.

A year or so ago, Andrew and I were talking about a very complicated online campaign system that would be map-based and very involved.  It was cool but I think it would have ended up being just OK, and if it was great it would be for reasons that weren't about Battleground.  This system reminds us that simple and elegant is almost always better than complex and convoluted.  Two-card combinations (with possible third cards) plus various force levels and recruiting restrictions mean that one deck of cards is capable of generating a vast number of battles as well as connecting them into a campaign.

We're hoping it will be, but I'd say the odds are against it.  It's basically one of those "if everything goes right we'll have the first couple of cases FedEx'd for GenCon" but I've yet to see a print job where everything goes right.  Smiley

Wow, the picture of Dru'ahn the Gross holding a Kingdom card is really cool-- or at least, I got a big kick out of it.

There appears to be something slightly wrong with the text; at least, when I view it, it doesn't look quite right.  The letters appear choppy and not clear from the computer I'm using, which is a really normal setup.

Neat!

Maybe we can also have a poster with the Logo "Uncle Dru'ahn wants YOU" and have the Ogre point his hand just like Uncle Sam.

What do you think?

I got the impression that the entire page is a jpg file instead of a normal html page with text and images. That would explain the blurriness of the letters.

Can you email Kaile about it?  (Do you have her email address?)
