Tonight 8 of us got together and tried this "draft" thing with Battleground.
The Draft basically involved us each pulling cards of our choice out of small piles then passing the piles to the next person. We then played some 1500-point open-map games.

The players. Jaime is left middle. Chad is right, far. Next to him is Seth, then Niko who organized this. I don't know the other guys' names.

I went with a 9 unit "swarm army," opposite Niko's 7-unit army which had a strong right flank--triceratops and High Elf Knights--yike!

Jaime's army in the foreground; Seth's in the background.

Chad's army in the background. Rumor has it that the Giant was rolling like the God of War himself.

The other guys' game.

Our battle when I conceded after about 30 minutes. Things were looking OK for me in this game--not great but OK. Then two disasters happened. 1) Niko played "Seize the Moment" which accelerated his Triceratops and his High Elf Knights into final rushing my two twerpy cav units (Italian Cav & Equites, who until that happened were threatening to pinch his Knights and had been safely out of final rush range.
Then the following turn his two twerps passed their rout checks, while my High Elf Battlesquad routed from his Libyan Fail (I had to burn my Lizardmen Cold Blooded card on Lowblood Levies who had also blown their rout check when they went into the yellow.) and that was all she wrote.

It sounded like most guys were having a great time. Wasn't really my cup of tea personally--it felt like a fencing match in which you each got a different random weapon and were blindfolded. Having no idea what to expect to see, or even what command cards the opponent might have in hand, I found it impossible to plan for anything except at the most superficial level. Choosing the cards was kind of fun, though.
Anyway, glad I tried it once, and it was fun to be gaming alongside 7 other players! Thanks to Niko for arranging it.
