If you have a unit of Lords of Dusk behind two units of slaves See Below:

slslsl   slslsl
     LoD

How much space can you leave for a shot sleeve between the two unit of Slaves without permitting a FR on the LoD? Is <3.5" all that is required to block a FR or is it at least 1/2S to allow a FR?

You need a 2.5" gap to shoot through.  Of course, units also need a 2.5" gap to final rush through.  So if your LOD shoots it can be final rushed, though if the gap is under 3.5" they would have to final rush with the flank.
