I'm wondering if I am supposed to cut my road pieces so they will match the pictures in the Kingdoms deck.

With the terrain pack, it should be very clear where to make cuts.  I recommend that you not make any other cuts.  If a road is too long, just fold it under itself--or maybe there's a shorter road piece.  I'm played 50+ games with terrain and have always found that the standard-cut pieces work well.

I cut where it instructs but I also cut at the folds for the longer pieces because some pieces were not laying flat.
