Hi All,

Battleground is an "odd" product.  When it does well for a store it often does very well; if even half a dozen people get moderately serious about it, that can be over $1,000 in sales.  The problem is that most stores either don't carry it or carry it in a really modest way, with a few decks and no support.  Carrying Battleground in depth is a real risk, because if it doesn't hit with their players they're stuck with a pretty significant investment.

What sort of gamers would we be if we couldn't break that problem?

We're now offering a special for brick-and-mortar game stores.  We'll deliver them one of each Battleground display (4 decks), plus Kingdoms, Terrain, Scenario Book, etc.  That's nearly $800 worth of product.  They then have six months to test out the product.  At the end of the six months, they can ship back whatever they didn't sell and pay only for what they keep.

(Yes, this is basically a way of saying "six months on consignment".)

All we ask of the retailers in return is that they commit not to selling the product for any discounts greater than 10% (so we aren't undercutting established retailers) and that they hold at least one in-store demo to promote the new game.

We'll be promoting this on the website, but if any of you (particularly those of you who complain about not having enough local players) know a game store that might be interested in potentially earning a bunch of sales with zero cash investment, please have them contact me at chad dot ellis at comcast dot net.

Is this a U.S. thing, or is it possible in other parts of the world as well? I live in Norway, so I guess shipping cost might be an issue..

I'd be open to doing a deal like this in Norway, but would probably need the retailer to share the shipping costs.

Reminds me of that line from "Leningrad Cowboys" when somebody from Finland said they'd never heard of the group - "You may not have heard of us because we've been touring a lot in Norway."

I travel a lot and may get to Norway in the next couple years, it would be great to hook up and throw down. Are you in Oslo?

Yeah, I live in Oslo. You've actually asked me that before Wink http://yourmovegames.com/forum/index.php/topic,1681.msg14726.html#msg14726
If you ever end up going, let me know. I don't know how familiar you are with Norway, but I would recommend the following site for a lot of good information: http://www.visitnorway.com/en/ It's an official travel guide to Norway, so it's so made by people who actually know the country, which is a good thing, but on the other hand you probably wont find any negative reviews there. If you enjoy traveling by car, I would recommend http://www.turistveg.no/en. These are national tourist routes, so there's viewpoints, hotels and stuff along the road. Check it out. Okay, that's enough propaganda..Smiley

Chad,
There's a few games shops here in Oslo, and I know that they frequently have gaming nights. Since Europe/Norway isn't ruled out it doesn't really hurt to at least give them your e-mail address and the info you have posted here.

Why not advertise on other gaming sites? Troll Lords, Goblinoid Games, Warhammer Fan sites, Bartertown.com,  etc.,etc.
Its all gamers- your target customers . Advertising is either very cheap or free.

I hope to get this out there at a local Con here in AZ.  http://www.advancedgrafixonline.com/vulconsite/index.html  Not saying the game is complicated but is sure appears to be one that will take some time and thought to grasp the finer points.  I have been reading a lot of the session reports, very interesting stuff I have to say.  I just want to ensure that my instruction of it will make someone want to play.  I have until Feb for the main Con; hopefully I will have found an opponent or two to test my skills out before then.  So keep those session reports going, I have almost read them all  Grin

Wow...my first post in what...4 freaking years?? I've been mostly dead.

OK, I've an idea. I'm also TAKING more time again (kind of taking back life from wage slaving). This idea will fit into filling that time and meeting some personal life goals (like not dying in a cube unappreciated after having lost all work benefits).

Let me brainstorm a bit and I'll email ya after some prep. Might be a few weeks (I want to run a trial of the idea). I'm good at getting things rolling...this might help a tiny bit.

Important: Are terrain packs still available?

Henke denke du! Been so long I'd pretty much forgotton all about you! Are you going to make Con of the North?
http://www.conofthenorth.org/

I will be in Boston winning Kevin's $1000 prize money, so I won't be able to attend. Cry

Maybe we can do something for next year.

Also, I'm looking to throw down befopre I go so I can actually have some gaming experience. I'm off Friday as well as the week end and my wife will be gone, so I can actually do some serious gaming. Let me know what works for you.

Is this promo offer still available for brick & mortar retailers? I know of a local store that might be interested.

I told Jet Pack Comics in Rochester, NH about this deal and they told me they were going to do it.  That was a month ago.  Is it still on going or should I talk to a different game store.  They also can't seem to get the Ravenwood Elves or the terrain set either.  I want to support local but...
