I-Con is out.  Despite being the show where I finally met Richard, it was only an "OK" con.  When I realized that it was the same weekend as Havoc (a smaller con but one that is less than an hour away and with a heavy wargame focus), I knew I'd prefer to do Havoc.  Then I was invited to attend Northeast Wars in Vermont which works really well for personal reasons (my wife wants to go to Montreal for the weekend).  So:

So, on April 4-6, YMG will be attending two shows:

Havoc: http://havoc.battlegroupboston.org/, Shrewsbury, MA

Havoc is a small con with maybe 100-200 people and nothing but miniature games.  I went there last year and had a pretty good show despite having an awful location (basically in the basement) because I only heard about the show after the main room was sold out.  This year I signed up early and have a great location so I'm pretty excited...except that it'll be Darwin and/or Rob handling the booth!  I'll be at...

Northeast Wars: http://www.northeastwars.com/, Burlington, VT

This is a show that ran for seven years, died under previous management, and is now being brought back by the good people of Quarterstaff Games.  It used to have 400+ people each year -- who knows how many it'll have now?  In any case, I'm in and will be showing and playing Battleground, Hill 218, Succession, Space Station Assault and maybe even a couple of prototype games if anyone asks.  Smiley

Hope to see you there or at one of the other shows YMG will be attending!

Thanks.  Hopefully you'll be able to come hang out at one of the PA shows...and there's Gencon, of course!  Smiley

Let me know which PA shows you're referring to and I'll try to make it.

We'll always have GenCon.

Gencon filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday: http://gencon.com/2008/corporate/news-pr/releases/2008/2008.02.15.Press.aspx

Seems to be in direct response to the Lucasfilm lawsuit.  Reading between the lines of the press release and the posting that Peter Adkinson made on the Gencon forums (http://community.gencon.com/forums/thread/167900.aspx), it seems that they didn't do nearly as well as they had hoped on the Star Wars event, and couldn't cover the fixed costs of the liscensing agreements they had made.

My best guess is that we'll never notice the difference, much the same way that most passengers are unaffected when an airline files for Chapter 11.  But I kind of wish I hadn't already paid for my badge and cashed in my frequent flier miles for the plane ticket. Sad
