Play grid size, 2x5 or larger?

How large is the imaginary card sized grid. Just 2X5 as shown in the instruction manual, or is it as big as I want?

We played it as large as we want too, and it worked fine.  At some point play focus against one (or both) of the Space Stations, so there isn't a ridiculous amount of spread anyway.

There's no limit to the grid.  (OK, technically there's a limit imposed by a finite deck and the requirement that you play next to a card in play, but you know what I mean.)
