Hey all, I suggested this before but gonna make the thread.

I expect some people will be wanting to come to the tournament from quite some distance, and might need places to crash.  Post here if you have space or are looking for it and maybe we can coordinate some crash space and/or hotel shares, either via PMs or via thread.

The store is at 4 Pleasant Street in Cambridge, MA; that's easily accessible by the subway from the airport, so a hotel in the area should be fine.  Taxis are also relatively cheap ($20-30ish) at that range from the airport.  Pandemonium is on the Red Line of the subway.

I'll start us off: I have a couch that turns into a bed.  It isn't the swankiest of sleeping arrangements but it'll get the job done and I'm shockingly quite convenient to the venue: 15-20min total travel time on the T, 40 or so if you want to walk through popular tourist destination Harvard Square, which lies between my house and the store.

I should do Trish the courtesy of checking, but I have a pretty big place with two guest beds.

Can we get some local hotel info? I really hope to make it and am willing to spring for a hotel, but hate just choosing one off the intenet without knowing how close to things it is, what the neighborhood is like, etc.

I don't know off the top of my head because, living here and all, I never really stay in hotels.  If you give me the address of the places you're thinking about staying, I can google map them and tell you highlights.  That's probably easier than my looking up available ones because there are about a million, heh.  Luckily pretty much all of Cambridge/Somerville area is nice enough that you won't end up in a bad area, but public transport and so on I can speak to.

As general advice, cheap hotels are pretty hard to find, if they exist at all, in Boston/Cambridge.  If you're looking for a hotel and are on a tight budget, I'd recommend finding someplace 10-15 miles outside Boston and driving in.

What is the parking situation like close to the store?
Please give specific details.  The name of a paid parking garage, and maybe even a Google link, would be awesome.

Literally at the end of the block (200 feet away?) that Pandemonium is on is a public parking lot.  (Pandemonium's address is 4 Pleasant Street, the parking lot is at the corner of Pleasant St. and Green St.

I think it's metered, so bring lots of quarters.

Massachusetts Avenue also has metered parking.  Most of Cambridge is "Resident Only" parking on side streets, except that on Sundays (but not Saturdays or any other day!) non-residents can park in "resident-only" spaces.

Is there a different option, like a pay-per-day kind of lot where we commuters wouldn't have to keep feeding the meter?

The lot by Pandemonium isn't metered -- there's a ticket system where you pay for a block of time, and you can use a credit card or cash, not just quarters.  I don't know what the maximum time is.

Another option is to park at the end of the red line (Alewife) where you can probably park all day for cheap or possibly free and then take the T in to Central Square which is just a few minutes walk from the store.

The Alewife option is probably a pretty good one, yeah.  Any hotel should also have parking available.

Made a reservation at the Courtyard by Marriot.  According to Google it is only 1 mile from the shop.  Looking for a room mate now to split the cost.  PM me if anyone is interested.

Moose's plans for lodging changed, so I'm going to need alternative arrangements.  Does anyone else need a hotel?  Otherwise, I could use crash space.

Let me see what the answer is on drinking first, laugh.

Can someone who lives there tell me if the walk is safe from the Courtyard to the Pandabearonium.  And vice e versey?

I've yet to visit anywhere in the area that I'm not comfortable walking around, in safety terms.
