I had an idea today for a Kingdoms special situation that I would call

Resourceful Commander - If at any time a player has no command cards in his hand he may draw one.

"He was a brilliant and wily commander, just when they thought they had him he'd pull another trick out of his ass hat!"

This special situation represents that commander who is less likely to be flummoxed. My first concern was that it was too much as one would never need to spend a command action on drawing a card, but in fact, I quickly realized this would not happen because you certainly could never count on having the exact card you need at the right moment, so you are far better off to have a mitt full. To put another spin on it, imagine a special situation where you could never hold more than one card at a time, talk about a grave disadvantage! There may be a slightly different feel with different factions, but I don't think its unbalancing. Besides, with kingdoms, both sides get the same special situation.

Unfortunately I think this special situation is broken in favor of armies where command actions can be stored effectively.  Umenzi, Hawks, Lizardmen, etc., can just spend their early command actions boosting their units with at most a modest loss in efficiency that is more than made up by the extra cards they'll draw.

I can't believe you'd have all that many extra cards, Chad. You only draw one if your hand is empty. You may be able to use it, but maybe not. And what if you get a really cool faction card that you don't want to just "burn through?" I will allow that there is the potential for a situation like your concerned with, but it would need to be playtested. Give me your best case/worst case scenario faction match ups and I'll face them off.

I kind of thought the "Tavern" was short some characters.
Maybe with some extra gold to spend, some higher priced characters may show up.
Certainly can't be worse than running up against 'Tactician' in the last third of the Campaign.

That's brilliant! We should develop a whole "Rogue's Gallery and Scoundrel's Coop" to add a few more characters of dubious advantage, even guys that you can saddle your opponent with. Shocked

That is an interesting idea!

I must gainsay you most fanatically here. Once the combat starts I am frequently out of command cards!

IMO I'm without cards 80% of the time.
