Eh, doesn't have to be one or another, I'm glad to play wacky rules or whatever, and I've been known to make ill-advised charges, but everything in the appropriate place, you know?  Sometimes you have the weekend skirmish with the nearby duke to see who buys dinner after the hunt, and sometimes you raise your dudes and go invade someone Grin

Anyway it should be a big gathering of Battleground players with plenty of side games and things like that, and we'll definitely provide some prize support that isn't just "win the whole thing", so I'd encourage everyone to come even if you don't think you can win the big prize.  We're all friendly and fun to play with...even super-serious juggernauts like Kevin!  Shocked

Yeah, my bad for making it sound like you guys weren't.  I sometimes forget that not everyone is in on all the jokes.  Perhaps because with all the voices in my head, I assume some of them are explaining things to the outside world.   Grin

For the record, I played Niko twice last Kubla and got schooled by him each time, but had a blast playing him.  I'd throw down with Niko any day.  And the East Coast / West Coast thing was just me throwing some gentle ribbing.  Just want to make sure people know that, so we don't see people busting out drive-by Follow Throughs on each other.  Can't we all just get along...

But yeah the main thing is the money & time off.  Otherwise, I'd definitely show up for the throw-down if I could.  I'd love to play Kevin and let him knock me around too.

Clearly these insults can only be addressed via an East Coast/West Coast rap war!  Grin

Also to be fair, I started the trash talking, then toned it back, which might be construed as poor form.  Sorry you won't be able to make it -- I too had a blast in our games.

Oh sweet Jahovah, white people rapping seldom ends well...

Well but 'might be construed as poor form' pretty much fits 90% of what either one of us says at any given moment.

I've been threatening to head out there for like 10 years now.  My mother-in-law constantly tells us about her life in NE (despite the fact that she's been in California for longer than she's NOT been in California), and we're talking about a family trip out there.  If so, I'll probably stay a couple extra days just to get some games in.

Wait... your threat is to take away the little temper-tantrum-machine that is making me go gray?  Um...your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!

I never play for money.  Heck sometimes I barely play for victory.

Grin That oughta be a t-shirt!

As my opponents probably picked up on this week-end, that's pretty much my philosophy also. Cool

There was Persia v. Alexander on Friday, Zinos.

First, I played Alexander vs. BubblePig's Carthage. It was a quick game because all 3 of his Libyan Fail routed or died outright in the same turn, right before his elephants would have smashed into the flank of my Foot Companions. Agema improbably won one of those fights vs. Libyans and had Companian Cavalry behind them that never saw a fight. On the other flank, his Gallic Cavalry got ahead of the line and I was able to pinch them with allied greek cavalry, who were eaten in turn by those elephants.

Latee, Dave took Alexander vs my Persia. We played on a map with lots of hills on one flank and two small ones in the middle. He took Sarissopheroi and Iphicratean Spearmen (light infantry) to attack the hills on the flank. The scouts took the high ground and amazingly managed to one-shot my Persian Cavalry, but I managed to reclaim that flank with Satrapal Light Cavalry and Immortals.  He put some Cretan Archers on that small hill in the middle. On their other side were Hypispastes (Alexander's special forces) and some Allied Hoplites, and two more Sarissopheroi took up the far flank.  I put King's Favored Immortals on my small hill, flanked by Sparabara on either side.  Opposite the phalanxes were legions of Thanvabara (levy archer skirmishers), with Saka Horse Archers and Satrapal Light Cavalry on the far flank. My skirmisher archers took potshots at his phalanxes, and my high and mighty immortals cleaned up all his skirmishers. Though I did make a mistake and try to target his archers when I should have been hitting his Hypispastes. They eventually managed, with two green health left, to close on my immortals, who had the high ground. It was a mutual annihilation, but it gook a few rounds of combat. On the flank, my horse archers took out his first unit of Sarissopheroi, only to fall to the second. My satrapal light cavalry took those guys out, then flanked some allied hoplites. He just wasn't able to shake them with all those dice penalties and eventually they routed. In the end he was left with a single Allied Hoplite against a variety of Persian ranged units, so he threw in the towel. I played both my army morale boosting cards and they saved my butt in many places.

Ron, Dave, what did you think of those games?

If we're making BGFW T-Shirts (not a bad idea at all, mind you), I think Kevin's quote on the Alexander vs Persia group is the best one I've heard, well, ever:

"My ego has a 4 toughness and a fumble card."

"My ego has a 4 toughness and a fumble card."

Not to nitpick, but Roll with the Blow is even better...

With the express intent of nit picking, for purely humorous purposes, "fumble card" has better cadence than "Roll with the blow." Wink
