Hawkshold burns!  The king has died, and the realms descends into chaos as various claimants vie for the throne.  With none able to gain decisive victory they turn to outside forces.  You command one such force, fighting to install the claimant on the throne in exchange for vassalhood of the entire Kingdom of Hawkshold to you.


Continuing on the success of last year, I'll be running a 3 round campaign-a-ment using the Kingdoms campaign rules at Kublacon.  It'll be on Saturday, at 10:00am and plans to run for about 8 hours (with a 30 minute food break in there somewhere).

This time there will be a few tweaks:  the mercenary faction will be Hawkshold and players will be required to take at least some Hawkshold units (representing the troops of the guy you've thrown your weight behind).  This means the Monsters & Mercenaries will be a stand-alone faction.  Historical factions are also allowed.  No optional rules will be used.

We still have to iron out the details, but it looks like Niko will be flying out to California to run demos and events during the weekend.  Endgame (the sponsors of Kublacon) will handle Battleground sales for us and Niko will have demo space in front of their booth when he's not using more tables out in the main gaming area.

This looks like an excellent event.  Way to go with the campaign modifications!  And way to go featuring one of the "oldie" factions as well.

Yeah we tried a variation on this last July.  Then we refined it, with a buddy & I playtesting it.  We each took two armies and ran like 5 games with advancing kingdom builds each time.  (rd 1 Orcs vs Dwarves; Rd 2 was Lizardmen vs Dwarves, with assumption that lizardmen got a draw last round, etc).

Worked out great, and I'm looking forward to trying it with lots of players.  Now I have to decide what faction to play.  I've been threatening to take monsters & mercs (because the 'Hydra Kingdoms' was so well received last year...), but I dunno.  Maybe Carthage.

Thanks for the personal invite Hannibal. Unfortunately not able to make Kublacon.

Presently, it was going to be difficult to be at Kubla in all my projected plans.
Had to make a decision today. You can thank the politicos in SF and Oakland for making it a lot easier. Sort of like looking at labels and just not buying anything from China.

Just a heads up, we're making a last minute tweak to the Kingdoms tree.  Want to make the Outpost worth taking.  The change is in the file with the rules on the Kublacon website, but here it is:

Outpost

Prerequisites:  Mine

Cost:  2 Gold

Effect:  Gives +1 Intelligence.  After Standing Orders have been placed, the player with more Intelligence may change X number of Standing Orders for his units.  (X is the difference in the player’s Intelligence levels.)  Units with pre-printed Standing Orders (such as always being on Close) cannot be affected.
