Greek missionaries took their alphabet (Cyrillic) to the illiterate Swedes/Rus.

Sorry to butt in, but that is decidedly incorrect.  Slavs have had an original alphabet, Glagolitic, before St. Cyril and Methodius set out on their evangelical mission — as documented by the very same gents (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glagolitic_alphabet#Origins_of_the_Glagolitic_characters).

That being said, there are some surprising and rather amusing similarities in structure and word roots between modern Slavic languages and their great-great-great-ancestor, Sanskrit.  Numbers sound very similar, some odd edge cases overlap, and even the Sanskrit word denoting sexual intercourse would be immediately recognized by any Russian, Ukrainian, Slovak, Czech, Serb, Croat or what have you. Smiley

That might in part explain why this word has maintained its #1 position on every Slavic word pop chart, ever.

At one point, when it looked like my regular opponent would be moving far away, we discussed playing over scype.  Seems worth trying.

I had heard the the next expansion for BG:HW was going to be Alexander vs. Persia. Is this still correct? If so, when can we expect it to be released?

You are correct, I'm just not sure when we can expect to see the product.  The last I heard was that they had a hang up with the art work.  Once that is finalized, the card stock needs to be done and then the packaging.  Optimistically I'd think they would be released in the Spring, but I'm thinking Summer is more like it.  Knowing the team of guys that worked on them, they should be worth the wait.

To clarify, this is correct.  Richard is raring to go, but our computer modeler had to bail out because someone at her regular job got injured or sick and the company didn't replace him.  This created an insane workload for everyone else.

We're trying to get another modeler but it's been very slow going.  (This is the major pain about doing historical sets...)
