I would like to see a Kingdoms special situation card that simulates a veteran force vs. a hastily raised and newly organized force. What is being simulated here is not merely green troops vs. veterans but an army that has functioned as a coherant force for some time vs. an ad hoc force that was quickly thrown together. One player represents the veteran army and gets one extra command action, the other represents the ad hoc force and gets 500 more points of troops and one less command action.

I used to play Avalon Hill's "Up Front" game and they did something similar and one thing they said, and after playing many games I found out, was that playing elite vs elite wasn't that interesting, and even elite vs. average wasn't a big enough difference, but that playing elite vs. green yielded the most "flavor." It also happened to be the most common match up in much of WWll where either the germans were much better than their opponents (usually early war) or the wehrmacht was trying to hold back a superior force later in the war. This happened in the Napoleonic wars also with the french before the russian campaign or after. In ancient times you had the battle of Arbela (Gaugamela) where Darius had a huge force that was made up of a lot of troops of questionable loyalty against Alexander's Macedonian contingent that was outnumbered by as much as six to one and yet managed, just barely, to pull off a victory.

Neat Idea, me likey Mikey.  I wonder if there's been talk of a Kingdom's expansion with extra scenarios. maps, and special situations.

I like it!  There should definitely be a "Green Troops" scenario.

To build on this, imagine special scenarios in Kingdoms were given their point multiplier equivalent.  For example, "Veteran" might be +8%, and "Battle Weary" -4%.  Then any combination of conditions could be played & automatically balanced.  for example, if your troops are Veteran and mine are battle weary, I get 12% more points than you.

Good point Marcus! I will start another thread to that effect.

Another element that could be added to this would be having the "green" player remove all the faction-specific command cards at the start of the battle to simulate him only being able to do 'normal' things with his troops.

That's a great idea Chad. I like the feel it would give the greenies. Having more troops than you can effectively control adds a very real feel of limited C3.
