Oh gee, thanks!  We were already struggling with how to make a really good campaign game and now you had to go and complicate it even more???  Tongue

I live to serve...

I think you're absolutely right here.  We don't have GW's resources, but we are putting this together bit-by-bit.  There is a campaign system in process that I think will be truly fantastic when it's finished.  I think at that point we might also put together a book along the lines you suggest here.  In the meantime we're trying to build up some of the backstory through scenarios and such.

Excellent! Sounds like you're way ahead of me!

As a matter of fact...I was just about to announce that this month's Harbinger (probably out next week) will feature a Lizardmen vs. Elves of Ravenwood scenario.  Not only will you get some Lizardmen units, we've also included some command cards.

SQUEEEEE!  Grin Sounds like fun!

"And now for something completely different"
"The Larch"
um, sorry...  Anyway, the thread is titled 'Ideas for future releases' so I figured this could go here as well as anywhere.

So what's my idea?
Tanks.
Say What?  Shocked
Yep, I said "Tanks".

I was just over at Andrew's homepage looking at his gallery and saw the 15mm cavalry on top of card, I heard about people doing this before but I had never seen it. Then I started reading this thread and the discussion about movement and punishing the stand and shoot army. And in my mind Andrew's picture morphed from cavalry in to tanks, and I realized it was something to make you go 'hmmm."

Yes, I know the base rules would have to change but my feeling is that it could take it.
Hmmm, now that I think more about it, I think where this may be headed is instead of BG just being a game, it's a system. Battleground: Modern Warfare, Battleground:Future Warfare.

Hey Subby, welcome to the discussion!

YMG is actually in developement of a Sci-Fantasy version of the system. I don't know where they are with it, but they've been playing with the idea.

Secondly as far as tanks go, some factions already have them. The Umenzi have the War Elephant, the Elves of Ravenwood have the Treants, the Lizardmen have the T-rex and to some extent the Tricertops herd. They may not be tracked armored vehichles, but the can push their way through a line and take a lot of damage before going down. They are also a good distration for those nasty long range units. I used to play Tyranids in another game, so I'm quite familiar with the distract with this big monster here, so my little guys can sneak up and tear you apart tactic. Tongue

Ah, good times.

I am new to BG. Its a great game. Regarding additional material I hope that YMG will release a campaign system. I like the Mighty Empires idea with big epic empires alot. But how about a kind of "tactical campaign generator" for those people which dont have that much time?

I mean an engine which allows for short war campaigns of just a few connected games in a row. The outcome of one game influences the setup in the next, etc.
Eg. The Orcs are invading a dwarfen mining province. Each side chooses its campaign points. There is map with a dozen prefabricated playing areas or so where the troops can move. 3 Areas are mines, 2 are strongholds, one is a mountain pass, 5 are wood hills etc. If they meet in one area there is a normal tactical combat game. With this it should be manageable to play campaigns if you have a limited amount of time. Some features such a mini campaign system should have is: siege combat, strategic victory points, strategic magic, leaders, troop replacements and supply. And the best: if the minicampaign maps are prefabricated (of course the usual beautiful art of Battleground) YMG is able to sell a new minicampaign each 3 months or so Smiley

One further idea:
how about a naval supplement for BG? naval battles and invasions etc.?

Huzzah! Another sea rat! Cheesy I don't know what's the public interest into fantasy naval warfare, but with Man O'War (by some considered best ever GW game) out of print (for a decade now, I believe) there is no major player on the field. I can't help it, but to start singing pirate songs when I think about something like Hawk's Warcogs, Lizardmen Longboats, Dwarf steam ironclads ... you get the idea.
I remember we had a discusion of the sort once on this forum ... there was some talk about the card sizes and such ... the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of keeping the card size and reducing the ship scale, so that a small group of ships or one, big man of war could fit onto a single card.
Please don't say I am alone with my cravings!!!  Cry

This is a great idea. A squadron instead of single ships. Would better suit to transport "units". Such a naval game could be combined with a campaign game and the main BG game. It would be a whole system.
Pirate songs.... Cheesy

Cry Smiley Smiley was it not a forum I'd hug you and open up a bottle of rum ... now all we have to do is somehow convince folks at YMG. You bring the rum and doubloons, I'll bring the pistols and a trained troll (with a peg-leg and eye-patch).  Grin

Just imagine; a set of cards with pieces of map on one, and background info of towns and locations on the other side. You use these for a sort of tile-laying to produce a campaign world.
And than the top-downs of line-ship squadrons and single major vessels. You sail around and shoot at each other (utilising one or another of the already tested brilliant Battleground mechanics), and when a boarding takes place, you use your standard Battleground armies, to battle it out on a special "piece of terrain", depicting actually the ship deck.
Add some background depth (such as some "history" and myth) to the mix and I can imagine a really, really strong and competitive presence on the (somewhat stale) field of wargames.

Now that's either perv, or triggering some sort of unstoppable rush of creative energy and ideas (or both for that matter, now that I think of it). If I can recall correctly, you've been interested into naval supplement once, so I'll allow for the second.

BTW (a subliminal message); don't you just wish, to make a top-down of a steam ironclad or a squadron of galeases?! (end of subliminal message)

Me? Not in the least.

However, rendering a troll dressed as a pirate with an eyepatch and peg leg is intriguing.

Hello! Thsi is my first post. I have been unable to get my hands on teh game as of yet, I seem to live in an area devoid of this sort of stuff, me and my buddies usually lan at my place, but I saw this online, showed it to them and we have been psyched to play. I found some very inflated prices on ebay we insane shipping and handling. Ill keep looking and keep hoping to find a place thats not a 2 hour drive away to buy some!

Anyway on to my ideas, if the ideas of someone who wants to play but hasn't yet is welcome.

Dark Elves. Ive never played warhammer, although I have painted tons of the minis for my friends I love them in all roleplaying games. There are all types of units you can include here. I already imagined a nice little list if anyones curious to know.

I also think that Denomic Faction is a very good idea and can bring a lot of power to bear.

I think another Human Faction would be cool as well. Since humans tend to be so diverse and adaptive (their advantage over the Fantasy races that tend to live longer and such). The one I had in mind was maybe more magic based. One ruled by a council of wizards. They would still have melee forces but they would be empowered by the various magic using units in the group. They could also bring to bear different Golems. Which would need a wizard to stay active. Liek if that wizard went down so did the golem, but the golem is a brute otherwise. Or maybe various elementals. Instead of siege machines they could have a group of wizards on a card, like Siege Wizards. That could cast bigger more destructive spells or summoned creatures or perhaps a blanket shield spell over a unit. When too many of the unit die, then the bigger spells might bot be available to them. Anyway I have abotu 15 or so ideas for unit for this faction. If anyones interested.

Thanks for reading my frist post!

Some of that stuff you mention might be in the MMM (Monsters, mages, mercs) expansion thats being planned.

I like the idea of the mage unit, that as it gets worn down it loses access to certain spells it can cast. Magic based on the number of health sqaures it has left. Interesting Smiley
