A: Mongolian deck, pretty much everyone mounted, either fast cav or mounted archers with a few practically unarmored horde type troop units.

If we're going to be true to the Mongols, we should probably include an equivalent of Peasant Mob...which would be captured peasantry driven before the main army!  :O

Shouldn't they be a bit more like the posessed? I mean they are probably not very motivated...

Actually, the Posessed are VERY motivated (like Courage 13 motivated when a Shaman's nearby). I think Peasant Mobs are more accurate. Of course, the idea of having them like the Possessed means when there are no actual Mongols nearby, they would pretty much automatically rout at the next rout check.

My 2 cents:

1. Personally I like the idea of an evil cultist type army, with dark rituals, demons, that kind of stuff. Perhaps a special ability involved with sanity(penalties to rout checks) or disease (weakness or damage)?

2. Some folks have mentioned a clockwork type army. I think it would be cool to do this as a gnomish army. The gnomes would be inventors, coming up with various clockwork and steam powered stuff. You could have steam powered golems, flying machines, Catapults, etc. You could even go the extra step and make primitive firearms and cannon.

3. In additon to that, I would love a three kingdoms (ancient china) supplement to the historical system, possibly with the command cards representing the various generals of the time. This particular historical period is very under represented in the tabletop gaming industry, particularly in the US, where I live.

4. I also would like to second the notion that others have put forth of the amazons, I think that would be a great addition to the Fantasy line.

another idea came to mind:

Maybe a Society of apes: not quite planet of the apes, more savage and uncivilized. I envisioned a tribal look similar to various native american tribes, with wood armor, feathers, war paint, that sort of thing. I know that seems similar to the umenzi concept, but the race would play quite different. Apes are (generally) stronger and tougher than humans, so the army would probably have a smaller number of tougher units.

Just thought I'd share it.

The most important thing about any faction is that it has its own identity.  The moment YMG starts (near-)duplicating is the moment people will start to lose interest.  Now, knowing that my opinion is not everyone else's, i'd never suggest not to do such-and-such, but just to throw this out there, i'm with Jens in that i feel the world should be cohesive.  I just don't see how a clockwork army would fit in with the current world.  That doesn't mean it won't sell like hotcakes, just that i won't be one of the people who picks it up.  Strangely though, i won't have any problem putting the historical armies up against some of the fantasy ones like the Lizardmen, but i guess that's because it's an *obvious* juxtaposition.  As an aside, is anyone here young/old enough to rememeber Shadowlord!?  I remember the components more than the mechanics, but i never forgot the artwork.  Then again, i'm a big fan of 2D.  Regarding ideas for new factions, i imagine YMG wants to stay away from any specific religion - and maybe even religion in general - but i'd love to see a faction with a Crusades/Warrior Nun Areala theme.  Then again, that's obviously because of the theme.  Which, when you think about it, means that nobody is completely against fluff.  People are frothing at the mouth over the High Elves.  Why?  Because of the fluff that is inherently contained in the race.  I already forgot what their faction abilities are, but no one ever said "I hope the next faction lets you do more damage once they've taken a chunk out of the enemy."  Regarding the "Egyptian" faction that Kaile and few others have mentioned, if you tie it to the moon you could bring in were-whatevers.  Also, you could have a unit of Moon Knights (the other Batman).  And boy is this post disjointed...

It's got nothing to do with the fluff, it's all about the artwork. Tongue

Seriously, I think it has more to do with the fact that people are looking forward to using and Elf army wearing ARMOR and weilding magical weapons and abilities.

I still say they make good eatin'.

I like the ideas of a Mongolian and Arabic themed armies, but I think ApokalypseTest is right about needing to add to the game play rather than just the appearance.  I would be more interested in seeing new styles of play and strategies added to the game over an army that was inspired from a source that I liked.

Sorry, have not been in here lately, but Nyt keeps me straight and since playing the High Elves the other day I was looking around and wanted to put my thoughts in, which touch on previously mentioned reply's.

Werewolves and/or Dark Elves would be army's I would be very excited to see and play.  Cool

On the on the other hand, stay away from the Chaos Army, they are bad, very very bad...  Shocked

I'm a noob but I'll jump in anyways. Smiley

I can't speak to the playstyle yet, but from a content theme standpoint here are a couple of things that would interest me:

- Arabic style army - could bring in units such as flying carpets, dervishes, camel mounted cavalry, etc.

- Asian style army - tons of possibilities there, already discussed.

- Ogres - thought of them before i saw the art posted in the general forum, honest!

- Swamp creatures - could be terrain focused, big slimy critter units (battle slug!), frog riders, insect swarms, could be lots of fun. Actually the more I think about this the more I like this race!

- elementals - different ways to go here, could be armies of individual elemental groups (earth, fire, water, air) or it could be mage controlled with units from each element. could get some interesting army building as well (fire and water units can't be within x inches of each other, etc)

- Celtic/Norse/Barbarian - Yes, I know they're all different, but I lumped them together anyways. They could be used for historical battles later, or they could be used for fantasy and incorporate their mythology in. Valkyrie units! The Morrigan! Bards!

- Clockworks - love the idea and had thought of it before reading the posts here! Honest! Smiley

- Minotaurs - Nothing says battle like a bunch of minotaurs charging across the field snorting with big axes!

- Chaos Army - actually that's one army that doesn't do much for me. It's been done. Actually, I guess most things have been done. But this one, eh. I'd rather see elementals. Smiley

- Halflings - somebody had to say it. Not sure how you could go about making them different from humans, elves, etc. but the possibility is there. Maybe they could have a pie thrower elite unit.

- Arachnids - Creepy spider people. Don't even want to think about them. Smiley

Well those were just some thoughts I had and wanted to share.

These two ideas for armies i absolutely LOVE!  I can totally see artwork coming to life for either.  I tend to jump at the visually possible first, being one of the artists 'round here, but boy the idea of swamp creatures could really be interesting play mechanics.  Especially in using the bog terrain.

I would love to take the Moon idea and pull it away from the Egyptain faction to its own.  Maybe a "Lupus" army or a Creatures of the Night army.  There are all kinds of creatures and bugs that only come out at night being nocturnal and all that could be fun.  What about an Insect army?  Ewwww bugs....

I also like the idea of a Swamp-type army. Lots of frogmen riding newts, fish people and frogfolk, giant yabbies/crabs etc... VERY cool. Would buy these without hesitating!!!!

What about EXPANSIONS to existing armies. For example, a unit of Griffon Riders for Hawkshold. Or even new variations on swordsmen. Since the art has been getting progressively better, why not go back and do a redux on all the older cards, taking errata into account. I would also like to see the addition of heroes, i.e. a powerful hero attended by two to three other figures, resembling the High Elf mages.

Oh, and I want Rat People.
