Okay, I'm just going to say it.

High Elves are the "girlfriend" army. THERE I SAID IT!!

BRING IT ON!!! Tongue

If you have a spouse or a girlfriend, who you want to get interested in playing the game, you have them play High Elves.  Nah nah.

(I'm kidding, but I'm ready for the flames!)
Elves of Ravenwood would also fit that nicely.  My wife absolutely loves deer.

"Hunny, you're not going to believe this, but they have entire units of guys that actually ride deer into battle!"

And Brownies are cute.  And wolves are just wild doggies.  And Bears can also be cute.  And trees are nice.

OK, so the Wolfkin look kinda creepy.  You can't win em all!

I was kinda alluding to the fact that HE win a lot and to get your significant other into the game, you'd let them use a faction that has a high win rate.

I'm horrible I know.

It's what we used to call the Eldar in 40K.

To be fair, I find the HE win a lot when either everyone is really good (Maneuver Mastery is awesome if God plays God) or when everyone is really bad (and the best units always win the day.)

I don't consider them a great intro army because if the HE player is significantly worse than the other player, it probably doesn't go well for HEs.

I chose Carthage here, although I'm clearly biased by their newness.  Libyan Foot are great fun, Elephants are an interesting heavy cavalry unit and skirmishers are really challenging to get maximum value from but can do wonders.  Balearic Slingers plus Determination (army ability) is really powerful as well.

Other favorites are Hawks, Ravenwood and Umenzi.

Hang on, I saw what you did there!

Rome in the flavour, with some blurb.
Carthage in the play, with some blurb.

You're just taunting us!

Out of interest, are Hannibal's elephants Colossal, or just large (seeing as how the Umenzi ones are larger than a reasonable real world elephant).  Might they be single card sized but 90 degree turned?

Of course. the box is double-sized...

I assume I can say this given that Chad (should have) posted the design notes yesterday, which mention it.  Hannibal's African elephants were significantly smaller than the Indian ones that we're used to seeing in later art of the invasion; they are Large but there are a few on a single card, and they have a rider, not a big howdah or whatever; likely the smaller Carthaginian elephants would not have been able to carry any kind of structure.

Not only are Hannibal's elephants 'only' large, there's more than one per card.

Hannibal's elephants were quite small by elephant standards -- smaller than the ones you see in the zoo today, for example.  Remember that we fit three triceratops on a single card and a Trike weighed about seven tons.  Even large African elephants are smaller than that, and Hannibal's elephants would have been smaller still.

Hey Rich,

Why don't you preview the topdown as well?  Smiley

Er...probably because I don't have the topdown at work with me. Tongue

(besides that, the file size is huge)

I could maybe shrink it down later tonight and post it up, if that works for you.

Umenzi, its just so fun to overwhelm your high elven opponent by 4-5 units AND include an elephant. I wonder what it is like playing a 6000 point Umenzi game... Must be quite interesting to see about 30 units pinching the hell out of the opponent.

I voted Runegard, of course.  It's all about the balls, baby!

Umenzi and Ravenwood Elves are close 2nd and 3rd.

My favorites are Hawkshold and Ravenwood. It was close, but in the end I have to go with Hawkshold as my all time favorite because their army is very versatile.
