So I played a 2000 point game last night on open terrain using the DE for the first time. As tempted as I was to try the 2x4 and just crush my opponent, it didn't show off how cool I think the faction is. So, I decided to try a fairly strange strategy and see how it worked...which as it turns out was actually pretty well.

2x Coven
2x Lashmistresses
4x Slavetakers

The thing that made this really odd was the I did not have any sort of line. I split my forces into 2 even packs on either side of the deployment zone and gave them all Hold orders. I spent the first 3 turns (I went first) prepping and firing with coven, as one would expect. Next turn I switched my cavalry to close, pulled in the far units with lashmistresses and slowed the next unit inside in either direct with the coven to avoid the opponent closing in on my cavalry. The idea was to pick off units with a double-cavalry pinch two-by-two. When one of my cavalry died in each side, the other changed plans and rushed toward the bowmen in the back... One of the few units cavalry can actually hold up against for a couple of turns.

The problem with this scenario was the my opponent was playing the Hawks and took 4 spearmen units and a knight of their own. Luckily, 3 of the spearmen did not fair so well on forced charges against the Lashmistresses  Grin and the knight was not happy with two coven wailing on him Cool.

It was just an interesting army that I thought i'd share. Any non s&s army with no line deserved a little attention.

I was lured myself into an all cav build with the slavetakers as core. The build didn't work well because my slavetakers folded way to quickly. Interestingly, Dave also played Hawkshold. Dave had taken no spearmen and lamented it greatly, but, as it turns out, unnecessarily, as with my slave takers poofing into thin air the game was over quite quickly.

Dave had taken about a million militia and some light cav and scouts. In other words, he got to do all the pinching. Tongue

Actually the Lashmistresses not only kept it from being full cavalry, but were the big reason I got to pinch a good bit with so few units. Being able to jerk them around REALLY helped.

Yeah, reading your post got me to thinking and I believe the game would have gone a bit differently if I would have had the LM instead of the Coven. Good thinking..On your part, not so much on mine. Cheesy
