After a post here in the forum describing the Dwarves as angry men, breaking the bows and crying "THIS IS RUNEGARD!" here is my army list that did really well last day against a shooty army of Hawkshold. The army was a variant of Testudo, containing Heavy Infantry but the player was not very experienced and made some mistakes, so the verdict for this army list is still "in limbo".

Here is the army list:

2x Antonian Horsemen
3x Axemen
2x Militia
1x Longbeards

You deploy all the foot units on the frontline with close on all of them and the antonian on the back row (the edges) with close on the units on the second row of your opponent and change them last minute to get a flanking attack to some other unit on the first row.

Comments:
The Antonian are really really good and are effectively archer proof with 3 defensive skill, -1 cavalry bonus, -1 fast moving target! Just keep the defensive runes with the morale boost for them.

Axemen: A really good core unit. You can sub one out for a unit of battleaxemen if you play against orcs or other heavily armored opponents

Militia. Just to keep the lines full, prone to wiping by archery fire and maybe routing. Just try to keep them alive.

Longbeards: Flank them with the militia, so even if the militia gets routed, this unit will last. Place them against the most heavily armored opponent if you can.

The main problem with the army is that it has only 12 points free, meaning you will take the free first turn and effectively do nothing since you have no archers. This can be fixed by replacing a unit of militia with short beards and get maybe one command card also in the process.

Or you can take out the long beards and use a Ballista. It is really up to you.

This is the staple list for the Dwarves for me. The bowmen really suck and the crossbowmen are really expensive if you ask me. They are useful if you build an army with two ballistas and some defensive troops, something like the dwarves of GW.

But as it was said before......THIS IS RUNEGARD

Played against a Ravenwood army yesterday and the game was really one sided. The Cav of the elves couldn't hit anything and the final casualties were one Antonian Horsemen unit. No dwarves died on this battle   Grin

It seems that the real bane for this army are the orcs. Especially with a shooty army backed with Chukkas....

Have they gone against the Lizardmen yet?  Tongue

I will admit, I haven't played the dwarves yet, but I have gone against them and they are VERY tough to hurt. I haven't yet finished a game with them, so I can't say for sure if I can beat them with my scalies, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

RUNEGARD!! Tongue

Since i live in Greece (no retailers for BGFW here), we are waiting for the High Elves to be stocked by an online shop and then we will order both the lizies and the High Elves.

Once we have them, you will read about the Dwarves enjoying T-rex kebab. Grin Grin

As long as you can stay away from the pinches and don't let them smell blood. Tongue

Good luck with them.

Last time I faced Lizardmen with Dwarves the Antonians led the t-rex around by the nose for a couple of turns before prancing off leaving it with the closest unit as spearmen, only to have the same Antonians charge it in the back a few turns later.  T-rex herding is a lot of fun, heh.

Anyway, the point is Dwarves v. Lizards is fun.

Am I the only advocate the Lizardmen have?

Oh well, more fun for me. Tongue

Just wish I could play more than I do.

I have the Lizardmen starter and reinforcement decks, but have not had a chance to use them.  I like their overall speed, and their special army ability is plain vicious.  I hope to try them soon.

Nah I love the lizards, I just also love good games Tongue

Seriously, I have a good deal of fondness for all the factions.  Except the undead, but I always hate undead in every game, heh.

That was just a memorable Dwarves vs. Lizards game, is all.
